What happened to the conservatives?

August 6th, 2008 by Will

Received an email today asking to donate to the McCain campaign, while I do not support Senator McCain because of his political stances, I sent a reply to my own senator and to the RNC Chairman.

Dear Friend,

I come with a peaceful revelation, a revelation of truth. Through the years we have had great candidates. Those who would stand with honor and truth. In recent years, it appears that this is no longer the case. Neither proposed candidate is an honorable candidate for the White House.

I feel that to make Senator McCain electable, he should drop the smear campaign on Senator Obama. McCain and the GOP should take a real deep look into their platform and adjust the irregularities.

Policy on War.
America needs to evolve from a preemptive engagement to a more self-defense initiative. Was the Iraq Invasion of 2003 justifiable? It doesn’t appear so to me. Saddam had not done anything harmful toward our country nor threatened our sovereignty, so why exactly did we choose to invade? If the Bush administration goes ahead with its threats toward Iran, we could be looking at a possible draft and mass protesting. Does this sound familiar? It would be a difficult mess for whoever becomes the sitting president in 2009.

Fuel Prices and the Economy.
I wrote an article about this in my blog recently. I would hope that you’d take the time to look at it. The fact is not that Fuel Prices are expensive, it is the fact that the value of a dollar has inflated to all time highs. Why has inflation climbed at such an alarming rate? A few reasons I can think of is our 9 trillion dollars of national debt, the welfare state, recent bail outs of Bear Sterns, Freddie, and Fannie. This is wasteful government spending. If we can cut our budget back to what it was pre-2001 we could pay off our debt in 10-15 years, more so if we were to cut it back to when we were in the Clinton era.

In closing, I would hope that you read what I have to say and take it seriously. If we do not change our ways now, we may not be able to offer our children a brighter future.

Sincerely,
-William G. Reed
