Georgia
I have my own doubts about the intentions of our political leadership. While most Americans are sitting at home, watching the Olympics or listening to the media talking about John Edward’s extra marital affairs, there is real trouble brewing in the Middle east and Southern Europe.
Russia sent it’s 58th Army to the border of Georgia on August 7th, then entered South Ossetia on the 8th. Russia as declared they will protect the people of Ossetia, and lost 10 peace keeping troops in the region due to the Georgian Army. Georgia is seeking NATO membership, was armed by the United States Pentagon, and this is seemingly a diversion for the US/Iran happenings.
US/Britain/ France forces are moving naval fleets toward Iran in an attempt to block all imports to the country. This is against international law and will most likely be the pretext for war with Iran. As long as the Georgian affair doesn’t get out of hand, it appears that the Bush Administration will be heading to war with Iran.
Our US Military has about 1 million voluntary soldiers, about 180,000 or so are in Iraq and Afghanistan right now. Along with an unknown amount of soldiers in military garrisons around the globe, will America be able to fight three wars, possibly four, without instituting a draft?
I personally can see the Georgian affair getting out of control, Georgia is facing a country who will not give up so easily. They are fighting for something they want and need (oil) and aren’t willing to allow Georgia to not include them in the operations. Honestly, I have my opinions that we as a planet are heading toward a Third World War, it won’t look pretty and it’s doubtful I would ever support it.
The Bush administration already has its nose in the affair. Condoleezza Rice has already been confirmed in talks with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, and has already started asking for US help.
Are we looming on a neo-con orchestrated World War Three? If the time comes, I will serve my country if conscripted. However, I feel this is another one of those wars I do not agree with and is dishonorable to be involved in. I feel there is more to this than Oil, Ethnic Cleansing, and Money.
